As always, we stayed at the Toorak Hotel in Torquay, this 92 room 3-star hotel is part of the TLH Leisure Resort hotel group and is situated in the heart of Torquay on the English Riviera.
Toorak is an Aboriginal word meaning “The swamps where the tea tree grows.” Luckily the Toorak is built on sturdier ground! It was the third hotel to join the TLH group back in 1986 when the Murrell family took it over. Now it’s is renowned as one of the friendliest hotels in Torquay, with excellent food, outstanding leisure facilities.
The Toorak Hotel is only a 5-minute walk to Torquay’s seafront and a 2-minute walk to Torre Abbey Gardens, a stunning location known for its wealth of exotic plants.
Of course, we were here for the bowls, the green or blue in this case was tricky to say the least with some of our bowler playing for the first time on an indoor surface.
This year, we played more bowls than ever, with some participants playing eight two-hour games over four days. I believe everyone had a great time. Dean impressed everyone with his dance moves, and Dave Edwards won the prize for being our top bowler.
A big thank you to Ann for her efforts and dedication in organizing the week, and to those who filled in for the missing players. We send our best wishes to Steve, who couldn't participate due to illness, and hope for his swift recovery.
Ann has successfully adjusted next year's dates to revert to our previous week, so mark your calendars for November 8th-13th, 2026.
