It was great to have such a good turnout for the AGM and nice to catch up with many of you afterwards.
My thanks goes out to the committee who have done a great job over the last year.
Many thanks to those who have stood down this year some after many years of service to our club.
Our committee has a new Chairman in John Chance he has sent this statement in support of his nomination as chairman of SJBC
Unfortunately I am not able to attend the AGM as I am away on holiday and so I would be grateful if this statement could be presented on my behalf.
First of all I would like to thank Dave Brolly for nominating and Dave Rees for seconding me and for considering me as a suitable candidate for chairman.
By means of introduction, I have been playing lawn bowls both outdoors and indoors for about a decade and I have been a member of Severalls for approximately half of that period. Over the years I have played in club matches across Somerset, Dorset and Devon.
I have considerable experience in chairing meetings in both business and voluntary sector settings. Latterly I was chairman of Winsham Parish Council for several years.
If elected as chairman I would be guided by the recommendations of the Bowls Development Alliance which are to
Support the efficient running of the club.
Chair the regular committee meetings and AGM.
Help others to understand their roles and responsibilities.
Communicate with all members within the club.
Be actively involved in developing an action plan for the club.
Represent the club at local and regional events.
Assist the club to fulfil its responsibilities to safeguarding.
Ensure the club complies with all its legal responsibilities.
We have a new person in charge of the green keeping after Dave Rees stepped down, Roger Barrett is taking this important role in the club. Mike Rawe is taking the role of Fixtures Secretary with Geff Kerr moving away from the area.
Sona Prendergast and Dean Patmore are coming in as Commitee members.
Thank you all for the support you have given me in my short time as Club Chairman
Dave Brolly.
